Thursday News Roundup

  • Negative campaigning can have quite negative effects. Just read the last line of this piece by the Tahoe Daily Tribune on the debate between the El Dorado County District Attorney candidates. (Link)
  • The Reno Gazette-Journal on the results of a Nevada poll on the issue of immigration. (Link)
  • A new PAC in Carson City wants to put partisanship aside and just look for the best candidates for the city. Good luck. The Nevada Appeal has the story. (Link)
  • In the opinion section of the same paper you'll find a piece headlined "Journalists don't tell the truth". I don't quite know what to make of it. (Link)
  • Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, a Democrat and a wild one at that, refused to bid for the Democratic National Covention in 2008. The Las Vegas Convention Center will instead host MAGIC, the Men's Apparel Guild International of California, at the time of the convention reports the Las Vegas Sun. (Link)
  • If you believe that behind the "Goodman has his favorites" headline you'll find his endorsements for the August primaries you will find yourself to be clearly mistaken. It will however tell you what female mayors can expect at the upcoming mayors conference. Maybe Goodman's refusal to bid for the 2008 convention wasn't such a bad idea afterall. If you haven't had a good laugh today, read this. (Link)
  • The Las Vegas Review-Journal takes a look at Dina Titus' and Jim Gibson's chances of winning the AFL-CIO endorsement before the primary. (Link)
  • The Sacramento Bee examines a negative Westly ad on Angelides with Lake Tahoe as a not so scenic backdrop. Did I say yet that I don't enjoy negative campaigning? There, I said it. (Link)
  • Meanwhile in the San Francisco Chronicle an article on a negative Angelides ad on Westly. Did I say yet that I don't enjoy negative campaigning? Oh, yeah I did. Five seconds ago. (Link)
  • Buying an election. It's easy. Got a hundred grand? Or fifty? It's the building tycoon against the Indians. And it's making me quite sick. The Auburn Journal helps me puke. (Link)
  • The LA Times chose to look at the issues behind the negative ads. Good for them. (Link)
