New York Times Gets it Right on Tahoe Fire Victims

Unlike some local blogs, the New York Times actually gets it right on who the victims of the Angora Fire in South Lake Tahoe are. It's a sad state of affairs when a paper from the East Coast has to remind some people living at the foothills of the Sierras that many Tahoe residents have to work for a living and are doing so in hotels and casinos, in schools and police stations, in restaurants and shops. The arrogance of some non-Tahoe residents is just mind-boggling.

Whose responsible for the lost homes in the fire area? I have more questions than answers. Did the home owners have adequate clearing around their homes. Had the area out side the clearings been burned as nature intended. Did some decision makers in Sacramento or Washington or Carson City decide that the burning wasn't necessary leaving the area vulnerable.

The Tahoe region is a beautiful area but must be managed. Logging and burning help control the fuel and reduce the possibility of uncontrolled fire and then erosion.
