Monday News Roundup

  • Readers sometimes do the job of reporters, it seems. Greta Hambsch of Stateline writes in a letter to the Tahoe Daily Tribune about a possible ballot proposal to increase the sales tax by .5% to raise money for additional law enforcement. (Link)
  • The Las Vegas Republican, excuse me, Review-Journal has done it again. It managed to write up Henderson mayor Jim Gibson in a love letter to Republican Congressman and Goverwannabe Jim Gibbons. Now that's quite a feat. Congratulations to Molly Ball. Wow. Another wow for managing to not portray Mrs. Gibbons, also known as congressional candidate Dawn Gibbons, as a power hungry wife who has the pants on this marriage. Think I'm going haywire here? Just read the passage about Dawn wanting her husband desperately to run for office and insert Bill and Hillary Clinton for Jim and Dawn Gibbons. (Link)
  • Gibson and Titus are at it again. This time they're fighting over Henderson. Yawn. Honestly, I don't care much for the mayor, as I've said before. My fav is Dina Titus. However, I'm getting reeeeeaaaaaallllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyy tired of this bull. Run on the issues and your record. Is that so hard to do? The Review-Journal, again.(Link)
  • A reader of the Sacramento Bee complains about the judicial system of Placer County. The letter by Laurance S. Smith of Newcastle is among many letters. Just scroll down to find it. (Link)
  • The Sierra Sun writes about the Tahoe Rim Trail and that it is among the top ten of summer outdoor adventures which were compiled by ABC's Good Morning America and National Geographic Adventure Magazine. (Link)
  • Maybe that's why the TRPA decided to open an office on the North Shore. Or it could just be a coincidence. The Sun. (Link)
  • Religion and politics. It's tricky. The LA Times reports on a poll that has good news for many a catholic Governor and for presidential hopeful Sen. Russ Feingold and not so good news for Massachusetts Governor Matt Romney. (Link)
