Sunday News Roundup

  • Former Nevada Appeal photographer travels around the world. By bike. He tells of his first year in a letter to the Appeal. I encourage you to read it. Fortunately the caption doesn't say where the picture of him was taken. So we can bet where it was. I'd say Spain. The sidewalk looks eerily familiar. (Link)
  • If you wanna know what your Representatives from Nevada did in Washington this week and are interested in the latest rumours look no further than this column in the Las Vegas Sun. (Link)
  • The environment finally has a lobby. Wonder who's to credit for that. Al Gore, Katrina, both? The Sacramento Bee reports on Democrats pushing bills in the California Legislature. (Link)
  • A good letter on Rep. and Mrs. Doolittle and lobbyist Abramoff by Ralph Novak of Lincoln in the Sacramento Bee. (Link)
  • So, what's it gonna be? Governor Newsom, Senator Newsom, Secretary of Health Newsom, or President Newsom? The San Francisco Chronicle can't just report on the bold and ambitious health insurance plan by San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, no it has to insert the "could be a big career push" spin. What's up with reporters these days? Apparently they don't believe the story in itself is important and interesting enough. Geez. (Link) PS: Not that I don't like the idea of a President Newsom, quite to the contrary.
  • So, the Arnold will now release intelligence reports. It will be interesting to see where this leads us. The LA Times. (Link)
  • A Harvard professor of psychology in the LA Times on why the really serious threats aren't taken seriously. My two cents: Maybe it's that the Republicans are still power. (Link)
